County Warm-up Fixture!
Suffolk County 'vs' Ron Ames select
Suffolk County
Men's team took on a Suffolk select side in a friendly match in preparation
for next months area cup competition in Chester.
The select
side consisited of Suffolk players, unavailable or inelligable for selection
for the tournament.
Captained by the experienced setter, Ron Ames, and with the height advantage
of Dan Elliston and Tom Miller,
the select side offered tough opposition for the Suffolk Men.
The Suffolk
Men were missing 2 of their 3 setters, giving the opportunity to try out
a few others in the crucial position. Four sets were shared evenly with close
scorelines,
but the Suffolk men will be disappointed with their poor phases of defensive
play that
regularly allowed the select side to stay in touch with the county team.
Communication was lacking at times and often the setters were put under unnecessary
pressure with a wayward first pass.
However this
was a good workout from the team, and a lot was learnt.
When the team passed well the attacks were good, and if the team can consistently
pass well in four weeks time,
they have the potential to go one stage further than the previous three years
where we were losing semi finalists.
