The Ladies County Scene
Chester.
Nice place, strange people. We noticed this straight after our arrival when
we walked into the first pub. No one under 60. Great. We were out in 2 seconds.
Second pub was a bit
better however no nice faces to look at. Bad start.
At least
we could focus on volleyball. We opened a tournament with a brand new call:
Yo no soy marinero, soy capitan.
Very "different"
but made us laugh every time
(we gave up after about 5 calls and got back
to good old "win").
However loud Slovak EEEESO ESO call became rather popular and kept our team
spirit going.
First we
faced Cheshire 1. Easily won first set (11 - 25) but the second one slipped
through our fingers and we lost it by 1 point.
In the third one instead of fighting we surrended it and lost 25 - 16.
After supporting
our men and refereeing the third match we played Berkshire. Here, Ann and Debi
were tripping over each other wanting to set, but eventually they managed to
talk (about volleyball for a change) and solved
this problem. Well done girls. After a closely fought game we came out on top
( 2 : 1).
And then
the worst match ever took place. Against Manchester. Hunger and fatigue set
in
and no one could be bothered to move. It was bad and so was the result. 3 :
0. Nobody had enough energy
to even be disappointed from the fact, that the best we could end up was the
fifth place.
But after a hot bath and a short sit/lay down we realised what happened and decided to hit a bar and drown our sorrows. Successfully.
Soon Ann
found herself in a conversation with a bouncer after she was showing
off her dance skills on the table. And Soussy's legs decided it's a better idea
if she goes down
the stairs on her bum. However a few bottles of wine made sure she couldn't
remember the pain.
But I tell you, she soon realised once wine stopped working and a big bruise
appeared on her leg.
(By the way, she keeps claiming it's from diving after a ball. Yeah right! )
Well anyway.
Believe or not, all that booze had a great impact on our girls. On Sunday we
played amazingly.
Team work improved a lot and chasing the ball was worth seeing. There was a
slight fear
when Julie told us her lense got mysteriously chipped and she didn't have a
spare one.
But after watching our one eyed middle hitter play, we soon realised one doesn't
really need
the other eye. Julie was happily digging and smashing with no signs of disability
whatsoever.
We beat Cheshire
2 and Berkshire easy 2 : 0, but gave Merseyside a little hope when we lost first
set 24 - 25.
No panic though, other two were won comfortably 25 - 16 and 15 - 9.
Nice moment
of the day was when Phil (Julie's man) became our unofficial coach
when after final beating Berkshire, their coach went to shake Phil's hand. You've
done well Phil,
thanks for everything.
Well and
that's the end of the story. Everyone had a nice time, we became a real team
and we've decided we're going for the win next year.
Because we can do it, can't we, girls?! Eeeeeeeeeeeso eso, clap clap clapclapclap.
The gals at Chester!
