Mens National League 3E
Sunday 30th November 2008

v
TH Lynx

With Newmarket struggling to bond as a team Lynx were always going to be a tough ask based on their previous meetings.

Newmarket started well in the first set quickly going 2 points up and keeping a composed point or two ahead of Lynx, until a poor rotation on the home side saw Lynx take advantage and forge ahead with an ireversible lead.

The second set started in a similar vein, Charles Reid blocking and attacking with a regularity that all other team players could learn from. A string of points from MVP Nik Mesanov and Pete Gale allowed Newmarket to see the set out.

Disruption on the bench resulted in panic as Newmarket came out for the third. What should have been an encouraging start following a strong finish in the second turned in disarray and unorganised play and an easy set for the away side to pick off.

With newly appointed captain Paul Freeman back on court connecting with the ever steady setting of Ben Child the two sides stayed very level early doors. Rob Dovaston benched for the first half came back in as setter after having played some of his best volleyball this season early on, but alas it was too little too late and Lynx who throughout had made the fewer errors to the final set and game 3-1.

The mid week game to follow should be a confidence booster for a side that has started to re gel before Newmarket face div 2 opposition in next weekends cup game.
