Mens National League 3E
Sunday 13th April 2008

v
Tonbridge
Dulwich

Newmarket's poor national league season was to come to an end at the final weekend with strong opposition in the form of fifth place Tonbridge and third place Dulwich Knights.

Newmarket started well, still buoyant from the win in the Suffolk cup earlier on the week, away side Tonbridge took a little while to build up steam but when they did it was just enough to over turn the home sides lead and clinch the set.

The same happened in both of the next two sets, the lead being jostled between the two sides and the game always remaining very close. Nik Mesanov produced the "Guns" which saw him awarded the MVP for the first game. Disappointed at not taking any of the three sets Newmarket were pleased at their overall performance.

The second game was against the stronger of the two opponents according to league positions. Dulwich started well having just beaten Tonbridge and managed to keep their momentum going, proving too strong for the home side.

Newmarket had time to regroup for the second set and quickly stormed ahead, Charles Reid played a huge part in the success, mainly in the way he managed to keep picking up balls that looked to be far to strong to replay. His prowess at the net was also an addition to why he was awarded his first MVP of his career.

Newmarket's banter on court and general enjoyment of a game played at this demanding level showed, however this proved not to be quite enough to dampen the Dulwich attack and the final two very close sets went against them allowing the travelling side the luxury of the long drive home with a smile on the coaches face.
