About NVC
The forthcoming season will be Newmarket's 24th playing competitive volleyball and next May, we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary in style with a Spring Ball.
Since leaving the National League due top dwindling numbers, we have regrouped over the last 2 seasons, and rebuilt a squad to challenge at the higher level. In that time, we have contionued to dominate the Cambridgeshire league, and featured strongly in Suffolk, although Stowmarket manage to thwart us every other year.
So now we are back in the big time, and the squad is as healthy as it has ever been. We are currently at our limit of 25 active players, and are currently unable to take on any beginners, although players who can play to a decent level straight away are welcome to get in touch.
As ever, a big thankyou to our sponsors, Nickerson Zwaan. Volleyball, like many sports nationwide, is out of the media spotlight, and as such grossly under funded. Thankfully, we have the support of our council, Forest Heath, in partnership with Anglia Community Leisure. We thank them for their efforts in keeping fees as low as possible. If you are a local business interested in supporting your local National League Volleyball side, then please get in touch on the link below. You will find us to be a likeable bunch, and we will be happy to incorporate your business in anyway we can!
As I said, we are a friendly bunch, comprising many original members from all those years ago. Some are showing it more than others, and whilst many have come and gone, all are welcomed back! We are quite an international club now as well, currently sporting representatives from Estonia, Poland, Italy, and the good old US of A. Whilst we are generally a mens club, we will accommmodate ladies who can mix it with the boys. Regrettably, with only 2 hours volleyball a week, training is hard, fair and feisty, so be prepared to be thrown into the mix!
So now we are back to our spiritual home, we train Wednesday nights at Newmarket Leisure Centre, from 8pm-10pm, followed by a beer or two in the bar afterwards. Social events generally revolve around curry houses and taverna's, and a taste for both these extra curricular activities will certainly help any newcomers to settle in!
