About NVC
The forthcoming season will be Newmarket's 21st playing competitive volleyball!
Last season we got back our Suffolk League trophy from Ipswich, but that aside, it proved a season of near misses. We entered the National League for the first time in the club's history, and finished a respectable 6th out of 10. This year in an expanded division, we very much hope we can improve on that placing. The Suffolk cup was perhaps the most disappointing competition, as we lost out to rivals Stowmarket in the semi final. Thankfully we finished runners-up (missing out by a single point) in the Cambridgeshire league, meaning a return to the exciting Superleague competition this year - a competition we have never been beaten in!
As ever, a big thankyou to our sponsors, Domino Printing & Xtax Accountancy Services. Volleyball, like many sports nationwide, is out of the media spotlight, and as such grossly under funded. Thankfully, we have the support of our council, Forest Heath, and we thank them for their efforts in keeping fees as low as possible. If you are a local business interested in supporting your local National League Volleyball side, then please get in touch on the link below. You will find us to be a likeable bunch, and we will be happy to incorporate your business in anyway we can!
As I said, we are a friendly bunch, comprising many original members from all those years ago. Some are showing it more than others, and whilst many have come and gone, all are welcomed back! We are quite an international club now as well, with representatives from Belgium, America, Poland, Slovakia & Portugal amongst the ranks. If you are interested in joining the mix, we have opportunities for various levels of volleyballers from novices to experts. We will take on rank beginners, on the understanding that we have very litte training time and no dedicated coaches. As a result, after a small introduction to the game, we will want you to integrate with the squad training and hurl yourself into it with 100% effort. Height, agility and a feel for ball skills are ideal qualities for VB players but as none of our current crop have any of these skills, a sense of humour and a good deal of dedication will do for now!
This year we have moved (again). We train Wednesday nights at the Dome Leisure Centre, Mildenhall from 9pm-11pm. First session is free so you can get a feel for the game. If you show some potential, we'll be asking you back! So if you've played before, or are completely raw and interested in coming along, please contact us so we know to expect you!
Social events generally revolve around curry houses and taverna's, and a taste for both these extra curricular activities will certainly help any newcomers to settle in!
Thanks for your interest
